I have a somewhat embarrassing secret. So please don’t tell anyone. I snore. Not all the time, but when my weight gets over 80 kg, I snore. Under 80 kg I’m quiet, but over 80 kg it’s as if my body has an alarm to make me aware that I need to shed a few kilos.
In effect a quiet night’s sleep is an indicator that I am healthy.
In Galatians 5, Paul describes some of the signs of a life which is healthy. A life which is in sync with God. Is describes the fruit of Holy Spirit which should be evident in our life.
Galatians 55: 22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
If these are the signs of health, then their absence is an indication that something is not right. When we lack self control, when we are not loving or kind, maybe it’s a reminder that something needs to change. Something in your life is out of sync.
Next time you snore spiritually don’t ignore it. Like my snoring, others will probably notice it as well. When are see behaviour or attitudes that are out of line with Galatians 5, let that be the catalyst to change something in your life which will bring you back to spiritual health.
