I remember many years ago inviting a friend to a mid-week service at a church I was pastoring. The music was loud and hip. The service was tight. It was very, very different from the stodgy traditional experience of church he had experienced growing up. After the service I asked him what he thought? He said he enjoyed it, everything was done really well, but then he said this… “it’s church. They all do basically the same thing.”
What was so frustrating is that he was right. Superficially churches all effectively do the same things. The “what” we do is very similar from church to church. Our locations, style and meeting times might vary, but effectively we’re doing the same things in order to reach our world for Christ and make disciples.
Organisationally, “what” describes the product or service an organisation provides. The “how” can vary from organisation to organisation, and in doing so create points of difference. In a sense the “how” is about style or a different approach to what we do.
In the third most popular TED Talk of all time, author Simon Sinek suggested that the most important question to answer for any organisation is not the what or the how, but the why.
The why is our cause, our purpose, our belief. It informs our what and how, and it is critical to our engagement and choices with a community or organisation.
On Sunday, 20th May we kick off our next Mosaic Growth Track. In our first session we answer the question of the why for Mosaic?
If you are new to Mosaic or even if you have been around for a while, we would encourage everyone at Mosaic to participate in a Growth Track this year. We have Growth Tracks locked in for July and October as well, if you are not able to sign up for the course starting in May.
So what is the Mosaic Growth Track?
Mosaic Growth Track is a four week journey designed to help you grow in your faith and relationship with Jesus, whilst diving deeper into life at Mosaic.
It is made up of four steps over four sessions which are on offer concurrent with our 9am gathering message. In the four sessions we will explore our ethos and the heart of Mosaic, how to get connected, discover your God given gifts, and explore meaningful ways you can join with others to make a difference in our city and world.
Our next Mosaic Growth Track kicks off on Sunday, 20th May, but you’ll need to register beforehand as our Growth Track has limited numbers. Please email, email@example.com or call the church office, 55252477 to register.
