“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even when it leads you off the well worn path; and that will make all the difference.” Steve Jobs
Last Sunday we kicked off our theme for 2016, ‘SEEK’. Our invitation for 2016 is to be church who seeks after God. In Matthew 6: 33 Jesus says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” It is an invitation which is found over and over again in Scripture.
To seek after God is an expression of trust. It is to be in a place where we dare to believe that God is, at the very least, good, wise, all powerful, all present and all knowing. It is daring to believe that life in relationship with God is the best way to live.
As Steve Jobs understood (see quote), life is full of dots or moments. We don’t control them all, yet in looking back at them over the course of our lives we can understand how they have shaped us and brought us to the point where we are in life. Yet in the actual moment or dot, we need to trust someone or something. For Jobs it was a something, but our invitation is to trust someone.
We invite you to actively pursue God this year.
