Every Thursday morning I wake up feeling a little older. My muscles ache and my joints are stiff, it’s the morning after Wednesday night soccer. Each Wednesday night I get to relive my youth, and then each Thursday I am reminded that “outwardly we are wasting away.”
Maybe you have tell tale signs that you are wasting away. You’re a bit slower than you used to be, there are the inevitable aches and pains, there are those minor surgeries or procedures, and what hair you have is ‘silvering’. It could be a depressing picture.
Paul, in writing to the church at Corinth pens these words “outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” It’s a reminder not to be overwhelmed by our ageing, or by the temporary challenges of this world, but to fix our eyes on that which endures. To fix our eyes on the one who is eternal.
Spiritually, no matter what your life circumstance, you need not waste away, but each day you can grow a little. Each day you are being renewed. The key is to fix your eyes on Jesus everyday. Speak to Him in prayer, encounter Him in His word, listen for His leading, and walk in sync with Him throughout your day.
