Are you good at multi-tasking? Recently I have been reading the
Digital Invasion by Archibald Hart and Sylvia Hart Frejd. In this book the authors reference a number of studies that suggest multi-tasking is not actually a positive thing. The studies suggest that if a person is trying to focus on two projects at a time, that they actually lose 20 percent of their time. Adding a third project will see them lose nearly half of their time. Distractions such as incoming email and phone calls can cause a person to lose 10 percent of there working IQ. The point being made is that we are much more efficient when we have a single focus.
I suggest that we need to apply this same logic when it comes to our faith. God calls for us to be all in with our devotion of Him. That is the level of devotion that Scripture indicates we should have in both Testaments. The first part of the Great Commandment point to this “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind”. We can’t measure what we lose when we try to multi-task when it comes to God and it’s not measured in efficiency, but in relationship.
Are there things in your life that are stealing God’s rightful place?
