Michael Frost writes in The Road to Missional ‘Jesus manages to be sinless and still grow up in Nazareth. He manages to be holy and still eat and drink with sinners, tax collectors, and prostitutes. He manages to be glorified while hanging naked and bloodied on the cross. His passion is the antithesis of fear and laziness. It is the ultimate in courage and work. And he calls his followers to a similar cross-shaped courage and work.’
Jesus’ way of life is to be a model for all Christians. With all of the ongoing events of the world at present Frost’s point is pertinent. We obviously don’t live in Nazareth but there are still plenty of temptations that we are confronted with. The challenge for us as Christians is how do we live our lives without delving into sin whilst demonstrating the love of Jesus? I know for me I can’t do that in my own strength and thankfully we don’t have to do it in our own strength.
It is in Spirit’s strength that we can live as salt and light in the world, proclaiming and demonstrating the reign of God in the world. Living a life that is shaped by Jesus, through the Spirit’s power and modelled after Jesus.
