So you’re thinking about helping out with Sunday night dinners, but have a few questions?
1, How many do we need to cook for?
Typically we cook for 25-30 people on Sunday nights. Anything that is not used and can be frozen goes into Martha’s Kitchen.
We have foil containers at church where you can put the meals into.
2, Is there anyone to help me?
There sure is, we have a team of people willing to help with serving and cleaning afterwards.
3, I can’t stay for the night service, can I cook the food at home and drop it to church in the afternoon?
Absolutely, if you are unable to be there to serve at night, you can prepare the meal and our serving team can take care of it for you.
4, What can I cook?
We want the meals to be very simple and not burdensome. Please don’t spend days preparing the meal.
For example, you might like to set up the slow cookers at church after the morning service (the church has 3 slow cookers you can use), with some jars of sweet’n’sour sauce and chicken. By the time church starts in the evening, it will be ready to serve and eat. You just need to add rice to it. It can be that simple.
Some other ideas might be:
- curry with rice
- spaghetti bolognese
- hot dogs
- shepherds pie
- fried rice
- caesar salad
- thai beef salad
- chicken wraps
5, Will I be reimbursed for what I spend on the food?
Yes you will be, there is a ‘donation’ for the meals and this covers the costs of the dinners. You have a budget of $60 to spend on food for the night. Remember to give the office your receipts so you can be reimbursed.
6, What time do I need to be there?
Church starts at 6pm, therefore if you are there by 5.15pm at the latest, it will give plenty of time to be set up for the night service.
7, What else is served on the night?
We have hot chips and dessert (such as cheesecake and cakes), also available for people to eat.
8, Are there special dietary requirements?
We do need to be mindful of those with special dietary requirements. If it is possible, please consider a gluten free option. For example, if you are using pasta, simply purchase one packet of gluten free pasta to be able to provide a couple of servings for those who need to eat gluten free.
Please keep in mind, that the chips are also gluten free so if you are unable to offer a gluten free option, our special dietary need people do have options.
